Specifications are subject to continuous improvement and dimensional tolerances apply — ask for the signed datasheet before issuing a purchase order or tender document.
The questions that most often change which model is the right one.
Intensive care, high-dependency and surgical recovery need five functions, CPR instant release and 240 kg capacity. General medical and surgical wards are well served by three functions. Rehabilitation and long-term care rarely use tilt at all.
Moving from two functions to three adds powered bed height. That is the function that lets a patient sit on the edge of the bed with feet flat on the floor, and lets staff work at waist height instead of stooping. It prevents both patient falls and nursing back injuries.
A crank has no actuator to burn out, no handset cable to be crushed by a trolley and no control board to fail. In power-constrained settings the honest answer is usually a majority of manual beds plus a smaller number of electric beds in the higher-dependency rooms.
Safe working load includes the mattress, bedding, any equipment on the bed and the weight of a clinician kneeling on it during chest compressions. Specify 240 kg for any ward that might admit heavier patients.
A flat mattress on an articulating bed bridges the joints and creates shear against the patient's skin; a mattress that is 40 mm short leaves an entrapment gap. Rails, headboards and castors are the parts that fail first, so order opening spares at the same time.
This is the core of the Keling range and the part of the catalogue most tenders are written against. It spans the full span of ward requirements: from a single-function manual bed for a rural clinic to a five-function electric platform for an intensive care unit.
Two specifications separate these models from one another, and they are independent of each other. The function count is the number of adjustable axes — backrest, knee-rest, bed height, Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg. The drive system is whether those axes are moved by electric actuators or by hand cranks. A five-function manual bed gives exactly the same patient positioning as a five-function electric bed, with none of the electrical failure modes; an electric bed saves nursing effort on wards where positioning changes many times a shift.
