Before you specify

What to decide first

The questions that most often change which model is the right one.

Test the rail one-handed

A paediatric nurse is usually holding a child with one arm. A rail that needs two hands, or a simultaneous press-and-lift, is a rail that gets left down. It should release, lower and latch positively with one hand, with an audible or tactile confirmation.

Transparency versus durability

A transparent crib body allows continuous observation of a newborn from any angle without opening the crib — which matters both clinically and to a mother who cannot easily sit up. A stainless-steel framed bassinet is the tougher choice where cleaning regimes are heavy.

Tilt for reflux and respiratory positioning

A crib tilt of roughly 15–18° is used for infants with reflux or respiratory difficulty and for postural drainage. Confirm that it holds position when the crib is wheeled.

Check the material against your actual disinfectant

ABS and acrylic are lighter, warmer and transparent but are vulnerable to certain solvents; stainless steel resists corrosion where disinfectant pools in joints. Name the disinfectant in the enquiry and we will confirm compatibility rather than give a generic answer.

Size the fleet above bed count

Plan at least one crib per maternity bed plus spares. Cribs are constantly out of the bay for cleaning or repair, and a fleet sized exactly to bed count runs short every day.

About this range

A children's ward needs at least three distinct products, and buying the wrong one is a safety problem rather than an inconvenience. Newborns are nursed in a crib or bassinet on a trolley base, at the mother's bedside. Infants and toddlers who can stand and climb need an enclosed cot with full-height rails. From roughly four or five years upward, children belong in a standard bed with appropriate rails, not in an enclosed cot.

The specification that matters most on any enclosed cot is gap geometry — between the rail bars, between the rail and the mattress, and between rail sections in every position the rail can be left in. This is why the matched mattress must be ordered with the cot: a mattress that is too small recreates exactly the gap the design was meant to eliminate.
