Which hospital bed mattresses does Keling manufacture?

Keling Medical manufactures 4 hospital bed mattress models: single-piece and segmented three-section foam mattresses that follow the articulation of an adjustable bed, and bubble-cell and tubular alternating-pressure air mattresses for pressure-injury prevention. All are sized to Keling bed surfaces and are CE marked.

Before you specify

What to decide first

The questions that most often change which model is the right one.

Match the mattress to the bed's articulation

On any bed with a backrest and knee-rest, specify a segmented three-section mattress. It folds where the bed folds instead of bridging across the break.

Match the size to the bed surface, not to the external size

The figure to quote is the bed surface dimension. Ordering against the bed's external size produces a mattress that is too large and rides up against the rails.

Alternating pressure where pressure injury is a clinical risk

Air mattresses cycle inflation between cells so that no area of skin carries load continuously. Specify them from the start for immobile, sedated or long-stay patients rather than buying them later after an injury has occurred.

Bubble-cell or tubular

Bubble-cell air mattresses are the economical choice for general pressure relief. Tubular alternating-pressure mattresses give a deeper, more controlled cycle and are the choice for higher-risk patients.

Confirm the cover specification

The cover is what survives cleaning, incontinence and repeated transfers. Ask for the cover material, whether it is vapour-permeable and whether it is welded or stitched — stitched seams are a fluid ingress path.

About this range

The mattress is the part of the bed the patient actually lies on, and it is the line most often cut from a tender to save money. That is a false economy twice over: beds delivered without mattresses sit unused until a second procurement round, and a mattress that does not match the bed undoes the positioning the bed was bought for.

Two mismatches cause most of the trouble. A single-piece flat mattress on an articulating bed bridges the joints when the backrest rises, which both reduces the effective angle and drags the patient's skin against the surface. And a mattress that does not match the bed surface dimension — commonly 1930 × 900 mm — leaves a gap at the head, foot or side that is an entrapment risk.
